Reporting sick leave (Sweden only)

Sick pay rules for Creatives employed through Gigapay in Sweden, and how to report sick leave.

If you fall ill, you may be entitled to sick pay under the Swedish Sick Pay Act (Lag (1991:1047) om sjuklön), provided certain requirements are met. As your employer for the assignment, Gigapay follows the Sick Pay Act and pays compensation as the law prescribes.

Who Is Entitled to Sick Pay

You may be entitled to sick pay during the first 14 days of illness if all of the following apply:

  • You are self-employed ("egenanställd") through Gigapay in Sweden.

  • Sick pay only covers the days and hours you would have worked via Gigapay.

  • You have worked continuously for 14 days before the illness (qualifying period). For engagements shorter than one month, periods are counted together as long as the gap between two working dates is no more than 14 days.

  • You can show that the work was agreed before you fell ill: emails, text messages, timesheets or an assignment contract.

  • You provide a medical certificate from day 1 of the illness.

If the requirements are not met, you are not entitled to sick pay. Gigapay assesses each case individually.

How to Report Sick Leave

Step 1: Tell your Client and Gigapay

Let both your Client and Gigapay know as soon as possible that you cannot work on the scheduled date. Submit the sick leave form on our website, or email sjukanmalan@gigapay.co.

Step 2: Send a medical certificate

Along with the form, send us a medical certificate covering your illness from day 1.

Step 3: Confirm which days you were scheduled to work

Sick pay only applies to days you were due to work, so we need proof of your schedule. Gigapay may also contact your Client to verify it.

Example: you fell ill on Monday and were also scheduled to work on Wednesday and Friday. Sick pay covers those three days. If you had no other scheduled assignments, only the day you fell ill is covered.

Step 4: Wait for the Client to fund it

The Client is always responsible for the cost of sick pay for Creatives working on their assignments, including related costs such as rehabilitation. Sick pay is therefore paid out once the Client has transferred the amount to Gigapay. We may contact you or the Client if we need more information.
