How much tax do I pay?

In Sweden, you typically pay about 50% of your invoiced amount in taxes, excluding VAT.

These taxes consist of:

  • Income tax: Around 30% of your gross salary.

  • Employer contributions: 31.42% on top of your gross salary.

Exceptions to the standard employer contribution rate (2026):

19-23y

20.81%

(up to 25 000 kr/month, from April 1, 2026)

67+

10.21%

(born 1958 or earlier)

89+

0%

(born 1937 or earlier)

Note: Before April 1, 2026, the full rate (31.42%) applies to all age groups except seniors 67+.
