Providing Your Tax Identification Number (TIN)

What a Tax Identification Number (TIN) is, which one to provide for your Entity Type, and the formats we accept by country.

When you onboard with Gigapay, we ask for your Tax Identification Number (TIN). This guide explains what a TIN is, which one to provide, and the formats we accept in different countries.

What is a TIN?

A TIN is the number your country's tax authority uses to identify you or your business. We are legally required to collect and verify it before we can send your Payouts — it's how we make sure your income is reported correctly.

Which TIN should I provide?

It depends on your Entity Type:

  • Individual: your personal tax number — the one on your tax documents or national ID.

  • Sole Trader: your business TIN. It must be valid for cross-border transactions.

  • Company: your company's TIN and, where applicable, your VAT number. Both must be valid for cross-border transactions.

Country-specific formats

Here are the countries we get the most questions about. If yours isn't listed, your national tax authority's website will state the format of your TIN.

My TIN was rejected — what now?

Most rejections come down to one of these:

  • Formatting: enter the number without spaces, dashes, or country prefixes unless the field asks for them.

  • Wrong number type: make sure you're using your personal TIN as an Individual, and your business TIN as a Sole Trader or Company — they're usually different numbers.

  • Country mismatch: the TIN must be issued by the country you selected during onboarding.

If your TIN is valid and still being rejected, contact us — include your country, your Entity Type, and a screenshot of the error, and we'll look into it right away.
